delay on food orders
Anyone else get a notice from Amazon about those orders of chicken tetrazzini ordered over a month ago being delayed another month?
Also my order from survival acres from over a month ago has still not arrived. I canceled the amazon order but will wait to hear from survival acres to make a decisions. |
Re: delay on food orders
My amazone order hasn't ship either but I never got a notice about any delay.
|
Re: delay on food orders
you might want to check on it. Different orders and products ship at different times. I ordered some mountain house peas and got them in 4 days. This was a special on the Tetrazini that some here placed over a month ago.

Re: delay on food orders
In the "for what it's worth" column, this is normal with Mt House.
They make runs of certain products, then move on to another product, and so on, and it may be months before they get back to the first one in rotation. Both times I've ordered multi case 'deals' with SafeCastle, I got the bulk of it in one shipment, followed by several cases of other stuff staggling in later. I would think when they run a 'special' on a single item, it sells out fast, so expect to wait for them to make another run. That is NOT to suggest that a shortage may not be in the works, but only to point out Mt House normal routines. What MAY be indicative of shortages are: Walton Feed sounds like they are busy as the dickens right now.....their service has slacked off considerably..... I ordered a bulk load of canning lids from Goodmans.net and this should be a real slow time of year for lids, but I had to wait weeks to get the order filled, and then when it came yesterday, they had backordered part of the shipment with no date of fill listed...... |
Re: delay on food orders
Andy, they have ominous warnings at Survival Acres. I suspect the warning is always up though.
http://survivalacres.com/shiptimes.htm Still the shipping time is double what they said in the warning. I'm checking on my order now because i have not received any notice on whats happening. I don't mind delays but I do like to be notified by email. |
Re: delay on food orders
I talked to the guy who owns survival acres. He said Alpine foods has a very long back log and it could be a while before orders are filled.
I talked to him for a while and he was very informative. He feels time to prepare is shorter then many of us think. Evidently he has been blogging about this and written quite a few articles. When I get home this afternoon I will check out his blog and post some links. |

The link to his site has been posted many times over the past year. I feel he's a bit too doom and gloom - sensationalizes things a bit. Still, he has some very good info. http://survivalacres.com/wordpress/?cat=1 |
Re: delay on food orders
Turner, sometimes it takes gloom and doom to get people like me off our sheeple asses.
Personally I find this whole process very emotionally exhausting and it takes a lot of support and even some fear to keep me from saying "screw it, I will just ignore the obvious signs that something is very wrong". Unfortunately I left that option behind when I brought children into the world. |
Re: delay on food orders
In the FWIW category ...
We sell a long list of storage foods--all or most of the major brands. All of the suppliers are very busy now. Prices of all types of foods are skyrocketing out there. Smart folks have been locking in today's prices and laying in long-term storage foods for at least a few months now. Backlogs are getting more prevalent across the product lines. Upward price pressures are hitting everyone. It's getting tough for them to find some of the basic foods they need to produce their llisted products. The fact is, the big headlines about food prices going up and food supplies going down are only starting to hit home in the general population. I have to believe that things are going to get a lot worse in terms of food prices and availability, before they get better (IF they get better in the foreseeable future). I've been telling our members that there isn't a better place for your money right now than long-term storage food. Food prices are about the one commodity guaranteed to keep rising fast at this point. |

Understood and I agree. He is correct in stating that when it comes to survival, food, water and shelter come before gold - but we already knew that. So, when he goes on his rants about how bad of an investment gold is because people should be concentrating on other things first it's just annoying because survival and investment are separate issues (although not totally exclusive of course, since you can indeed invest in food storage). You obviously can't EAT gold. Right now his top link pertains to the Iranian oil bourse. It is an interesting and important topic, however he states they no longer accept US dollars and that is flat out wrong. He just jumps the gun way too often and sensationalizes issues. Where are the CSA recommendations? That's my main "beef". |
Re: delay on food orders
Dang! I'm happy about putting stuff away already, but concerned about any holes still in my preps. The prices are running away and the availability too.
We had some prep long since, but about a year ago I switched from monthly investing to monthly preps. The thing from the 'basics' category we are shortest on, because of space, is TP, and I really really don't want to run out of that! |
Re: delay on food orders
Keep an eye on ol' reliable Big Lots. When they run out of cheap stuff, then you know things are really tight.

Re: delay on food orders
Well....another "for what it's worth".....
I ordered 3 cases of freeze dried fruits yesterday from: http://store.honeyvillegrain.com/ind...ction=VIEWCATS and got an email last night they shipped out yesterday, with a UPS tracking #.....how's THAT for service !! That was one hole wife and I saw when taking inventory last weekend......got quite a bit of staples, freeze dried entrees, etc.....but virtually no fruit other than store bought canned, and some dehydrated apples, that are now getting to be of questionable vintage ( did open a can from '98 the other day though, and it was fine ) They have a KILLER price on freeze dried strawberries......I couldn't find anywhere on the net that beat a case of #10 cans for 80 bucks ! And shipping is 4.95 no matter how much you order..... RandyMatt turned me on to this source.....thanks Randy ! |
Re: delay on food orders

Re: delay on food orders
I really like Honeyville, Andy. Their selection is limited but their products seem to be very good and at good prices when you consider some of the shipping has to be in the price since they ship for next to nothing.
We got dried fruits, bags of grits and corn meal, cans of steel cut oats, and some hot chocolate mix from them. I like JCs place too. Canned butter and cheese are real winners! They always have something sure to liven up the beans and grain and garden veggie menu. I wanted to get some of those pork chops, but couldn't just then. We have been in one of those 'repair everything' cycles, plus the wife had all those diabetes tests. But it is coming under control very well, which is wonderful. Though it means I have to order in a lot of low glycemic index treats now and are they ever expensive if you won't buy poison aspartame versions. There are very safe sweet tasting substitutes, but not at the el cheapo end of the range. |
Re: delay on food orders
ive ordered from safecastleroyal.com and honeyvillegrain.com and beprepared.com, all gave good service and had good products. i have bought different things from each one of them several times and never had any problem.

Re: delay on food orders
Thanks TN Andy for the links...
I have in fact e-mailed Mountain House several times and have not received a response.... It looks like they only have a limited selection of mostly 'camping' supplies here in canada and no #10 cans I envy the fact that you have so many choices in the US.. |
Re: delay on food orders
The reason for the difficulty in shipping food to Canada is that Canadian law requires food there to be labeled according to Canadian nutritional standards ... NOT according to US standards.
So unless a company is willing to foot the bill for special packaging/labeling (and I think inspections as well), then it ain't getting past Canadian customs. |
